Summer Recreation 2018
2018 Wood Ridge Summer Recreation Program
Registration for the 2018 Summer Recreation Program will be held now through Friday June 22nd at the Wood Ridge Recreation Office, 495 Highland Avenue. You can also register now through June 22nd online at www.njwoodridge.org and pay by credit card. Remember however that any registration received after June 22nd will be subject to a late fee of $50 per child. There will be no exception.
Please Note: The program is open to Wood-Ridge Residents who will be entering grades 1st through 8th grade only this September. Proof of residence may be required.
The program will run from Monday July 2nd through Friday August 3rd. The hours for the program will be 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please do not have your children arrive before 8:45 a.m. Our staff are not required to be at the facilities until 8:45 a.m. and therefore your child may be unsupervised if they arrive too early. Please make sure that you have your child picked up by 1 p.m. There is no recreation on Wednesday July 4th due to the Independence Day Holiday.
We do have a designated snack time every day and children are encouraged to bring a snack and drink. It gets very hot so please provide your child with sufficient water. Due to the high number of peanut allergies our facilities are nut free and we ask that all parents refrain from giving their child anything with nuts as a snack to ensure the safety of all.
A new t-shirt will be distributed to all children during the first week of recreation. The new T-shirt must be worn on all trips. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for Summer Recreation. Shorts, T-shirts and sneakers are great. Please no sandals, sliders, backless shoes, flip flops or Heelys (shoes with wheels). If your child does not wear sneakers, they will have to sit out from field, yard and gym games. Please make sure that your child leaves his or her valuables at home. This includes electronic games, IPOD’s, Pokémon Cards, Dolls, and Toys etc. The only valuable that Wood-Ridge Recreation is responsible for is your child.
DOYLE FACILITY: This year, 1st through 3rd graders will have Summer Recreation at the Doyle School (250 Wood Ridge Avenue), and will enter each day only via the Wood Ridge Avenue All Purpose Room entrance. Please do not bring your children to the back of the school. Parents will not be allowed to park in or drive through the parking lot directly in front of the Wood Ridge Avenue, All Purpose Room entrance. The parking lot will be used as a play area for the Summer Recreation Program.
Summer Recreation Doyle Facility (Grades 1-3) Schedule
WRJSHS FACILITY: All 4th through 8th graders will have Summer Recreation at the WRJSHS facility (258 Hackensack Street), and will enter each day via the All Purpose Room Field Entrance on Windsor Road. The front of WRHS (258 Hackensack St) will be under construction. For the safety of all, there will be no drop-offs on Hackensack Street! Drop off children on Windsor Road only.
Summer Recreation WRJSHS Facility (Grades 4-8) Schedule
The fee due at registration is $125.00 per child and $100 for each additional sibling, $225 for two children (siblings), $325 for three children (siblings) and $425 for four children (siblings), etc.
Please note: Any family that registers after June 22nd will be charged a late fee of $50 (fifty) per child. Early registration is necessary in ordering supplies, booking trips & scheduling buses.
The permission slip for all trips is on the back of the Summer Recreation Registration form and is also available online as part of the online registration at www.njwoodridge.org. A permission slip must be signed and completed with your registration. If the permission slip is not received prior to trip day, the child will not be eligible to go on the trip and should not come to summer recreation that day. If you complete the registration online, you do not have to fill out additional paper permission slips. Please take care in signing the permission slip because this is how we order buses etc. and it is imperative that we schedule our trips appropriately and at a minimal cost to the program.
Some of the activities offered include:
Movie Trip to the Williams Center in Rutherford for each facility. On movie days, the boys and girls will receive popcorn and a drink. The trips are booked in the winter and sometimes the theatre will change the movie for various reasons. We try our best to schedule age appropriate movies and will notify you of movie changes.
Waterslide Days at each facility. On waterslide days, boys and girls should wear their bathing suits, flip flops or water shoes (the turf/black top gets very hot), bring a towel, water, a snack, sufficient sun screen and also bring a change of clothing and their sneakers if they want to change at the end of the day. In addition to the water slides, the boys and girls may have outdoor games on waterslide day as well.
The WRJSHS facility (4th-8th grades) will have a trip to Inline Skating: On skating days, please bring your own skates if possible. Although the skating rink does rent skates, their sizes are very limited. Please feel free to send money for video games and/or concession stand. The boys and girls may bring a snack if they want to as well and once again, don’t forget the water.
The WRJSHS facility (4th-8th grades) will have a trip to Lodi Lanes Bowling: On bowling days, please feel free to send money for concession stand. The boys and girls will have time to purchase a snack or they may bring a snack if they want to. It is requested that the boys and girls wear sneakers with white soles to the bowling alley.
Please note the 4th through 6th grade will go on trips on different days than the 7th through 8th grades except for the first movie trip in which they will all go together.
Summer Recreation also offers Arts-n-crafts, games, contests, field day, theatre program/talent show, specialty days, tournaments, field sports & loads of fun!
In the event of extreme heat or inclement weather the program will be held as usual however the schedule may be modified to provide indoor activities.
Last year we continued our zero tolerance policy and once again it worked. We hosted 430 boys and girls and our problems were minimum. If your child uses foul language, strikes another child or is involved in a group altercation, they will be suspended from the program. If suspended they will not be allowed to attend Summer Recreation for a
Pre-determined number of days regardless of the schedule. Please remind your child that the Summer Recreation Program is an opportunity to have lots of fun in a safe manner.
Additional registration forms may be obtained at the Recreation Office, 495 Highland Ave. at the Borough Hall, 85 Humboldt St. or online at www.njwoodridge.org.
We look forward to seeing the boys and girls again and welcome any new Wood Ridge children who may be attending for the first time. We hope all of our families have a Safe and Healthy Summer!
